Iqrah Women and Children Foundation was born out of a deep and personal understanding of hardship, poverty, and the silent struggles that many women and children face daily. Our founder, having grown up in a community where opportunities were limited and basic needs often unmet, witnessed firsthand how lack of education, economic dependence, and social neglect could hold back entire generations — especially women and children.
The name "Iqrah", meaning "read" or "learn", reflects our core belief: that knowledge, dignity, and opportunity can change lives. What began as a small act of kindness — feeding a hungry child, helping a single mother learn a skill — grew into a movement of compassion, action, and empowerment.
Driven by a vision of breaking cycles of poverty and dependence, we began organizing outreach projects, mobilizing local resources, and forming partnerships with kind-hearted individuals and groups who shared our dream. Each story we heard — of a girl denied education, a mother without a livelihood, a child sleeping hungry — added fuel to our mission.
Today, Iqrah stands as a beacon of hope, healing, and transformation in the lives of hundreds. Through our programs in education, women’s empowerment, child welfare, and community development, we continue to walk with the people — hand in hand — to create a future where every woman and every child not only survives, but thrives.
This is our story. And with your support, it continues — one life, one village, one smile at a time.
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable women, uplifting children, and transforming communities across Uganda and beyond. Rooted in compassion, equity, and service, our foundation works to bridge gaps in education, health, economic opportunity, and social wellbeing — especially for those who are marginalized or forgotten.
